The One Thousand Dollar Dog

Doesn't she look so pathetic? This is Xena after her surgery... She tore her ACL in her rear right leg. It was quite EXPENSIVE to repair. (Fortunately we just sold our car.) Even though she looks terrible, she is doing rather well a week after surgery. She gets the staples out on the 29th of March, but she will still need to rest it for another four weeks. However, with the painkillers she's on, she's her usual self minus the hyperness.

How could you tell that she had torn her ACL?

Well, she was limping around on three legs, and we could tell it hurt to use it. It wasn't getting any better with "time" so we took her to the vet. They X-rayed her to see if she broke anything or had any arthritis. She didn't, so they put her under and worked her knee. If it slides out from the joint, the ACL has been torn. Normally the ligament holds the knee in place. So, now she has a permanent suture holding it in place. And that's her story.
